Seeking to continue our mission of healing lives through a holistic approach, in 2020 we opened the CIREC Clinical Laboratory in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, joining the national and international effort to counter its impact on people's health and wellbeing.
As an important player in the health sector, we worked to find ways of continuing to contribute to the health of Colombians and helping to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in Colombia. This situation led us to confront what we were living through with determination, to adapt, to keep moving and to continue making a positive impact through our mission from a broader, more human perspective.
Thanks to the authorisation granted to us by the Health Secretariat, we opened our laboratory service and we now carry out antigen and antibody tests and PCR sampling for COVID-19 diagnosis and screening, both for private individuals and for users referred through agreements with various companies and health institutions.
We have done a great deal of work to ensure people can get a timely diagnosis so they can isolate and stop the spread of the disease. Our greatest achievement, however, has been the social focus we have given this service: inspired by our social vocation and our understanding of the needs of those worst affected by this emergency, we committed to donating one test to Colombia's most vulnerable population for every 10 tests processed in our laboratory.
It is with this purpose that, thanks to funds donated by Fundación Santo Domingo and to the people who have taken COVID-19 diagnostic tests at our CIREC Clinical Laboratory, in December our Special Projects and Laboratory team ran a COVID-19 Diagnostic Brigade in San Andrés, with the aim of testing the population that has been on the front line of the emergency on the island caused by Hurricane Iota.
